5th Grade Camp Costs

Each Spring our Westwood Fifth Graders attend an outdoor science education program in Monterey Bay. Science, education, and adventure are the focus as students explore the marine & coastal world by hand, foot, microscope and kayak! This program has been specifically designed to meet the National and California State Science Education curriculum standards for 5th grade. Please see 5th Grade Camp Overview for more details.

Following is information about the cost of camp and what we need to do to get there!

COSTS:

Anticipated 2014-2015 costs will be:

$250.00 per student / $100.00 per chaperone

This includes all bus transportation, meals, lodging, supplies for programming, instruction, student T-shirts, arrangement of all site logistics and journals for student work.

* Families can choose to donate any amount toward the total cost of camp. We suggest the amount it costs per student.

* Families can participate in extensive fundraising efforts. We can only go to camp if we can pay for camp! Watch for fundraising info to come home from 5th grade teachers/parents.

* Chaperones must be TB tested & have fingerprints on file with the Mt Diablo Unified School District. Both male & female chaperones will be needed.

FUNDRAISING:

The following are some fundraising ideas we have used in the past:

*Holiday grams: These are little messages students can send to other students with a little something attached (i.e. pencils, erasers, etc) In the past we've used candy but that is no longer allowed during the school day.

*Mountain Mike's Pizza Coupon Card sales

*Smencils

*See's Candy Orders

*Bake Sales - in prior years these have been held during Westwood Family Night events throughout year - coordinator & bakers needed.

*Business Partners - need businesses interested in offering a Westwood fundraising event with a portion of proceeds going to the camp fund. (Ex: Marcello's Pizza has done in the past).

*Business Sponsors - need businesses interested in making a tax-deductible contribution who will receive recognition in the school newsletter and E-Note sent to hundreds of Westwood families.

Again, we want ALL 5th grade students to have the opportunity to experience this incredible educational opportunity. Please start budgeting now, plan to help with fundraising activities & stayed tuned for regular updates starting in September!

Please contact the office if you have questions in the meantime.
